The Forage From Fire series includes images of objects rescued from the home and studio of photographer Norma I. Quintana. On October 8, 2017, the Atlas Peak Fire roared through their neighborhood, burning their home to the ground. Days after the smoke cleared, Quintana’s documentarian instincts kicked in and she started making work with remnants she salvaged from the ashes.

The Circus: A Traveling Life series chronicles a ten-year collaboration between Norma I. Quintana and an American, traveling one-ring circus. This haunting and intimate portrait series, shot in black and white film using available light, captures contemplative and playful moments with the families of artists and performers, off-stage and in back of the house, as they proudly perfect their craft. As author Cristina García describes, “These are not flash frozen images, but a loving history of an extended family, another way of living in the world.”
